Description

Drs. Tony Yang with UCSF Psychiatry and Olga Tymofiyeva with UCSF Radiology are conducting research with healthy adolescents ages 14-18 to improve their emotional well-being through a free mindfulness meditation class. The goal of our UCSF BrainChange study is to use MRI imaging to observe brain changes in young people who participate in our class. Through this, we hope to learn more about how meditation positively changes the brain in developing adolescents!

Participating teens will get to undergo a free 12-week mindfulness training, in which they will learn self-regulation skills (breathing, yoga-based movements, meditation) that can help them relax and better regulate emotions. The group will meet weekly for 1.5 hours at UCSF Parnassus.

Participants will also undergo two MRI scans, one before and one after the training. MRI scans will take place at a state-of-the-art imaging facility at UCSF Mission Bay. The study timeslot listed below is the date we will begin our MRI scanning sessions, but there are many days available for an MRI scan within 2-weeks following that date! Contact us for more information.

Note: dental braces, permanent retainers, metal implants of any kind, and pregnancies will not be allowed due to the strong magnetic field involved with MRI imaging.

Participants who have completed all MRI scans and classes will receive up to $220 in Amazon gift cards.

If you're interested in participating, we would like to talk to you! Fill out this introductory survey to help us get in touch: https://ucsf.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9NR5oBgaR4ExsWx
